Washington State Cougars vs. Eastern Washington Eagles

Washington State Cougars vs. Eastern Washington Eagles at Numerica Veterans Arena

Cougar or Eagle? The 509 Classic gives you a reason to choose. Washington State and Eastern Washington meet in men’s basketball at Numerica Veterans Arena on December 22, 2026, bringing a regional matchup to Spokane. Follow the team you already support, or come for the contest between two Washington college programs.

This is the second edition of the 509 Classic, played at an arena away from either university’s campus. The setting makes Spokane the meeting point for the rivalry rather than turning the outing into a trip to a campus home game. The organizer frames it as a contest for regional bragging rights.

Once play begins, give yourself something specific to follow. Watch how a team creates a shot, responds to pressure or works to stop the next possession. Comparing those decisions with another basketball fan can make the game more involving, even when you approach the matchup with different loyalties.

Make a holiday-week basketball plan with someone who backs your team, or share the outing with a friend on the other side of the rivalry. You do not have to agree on the winner to have a reason to go together. Explore 509 Classic tickets and make the 509 Classic part of your Spokane sports calendar.
