About McCarthey Athletic Center
McCarthey Athletic Center is Gonzaga University’s 6,000-seat basketball arena at 801 N. Cincinnati Street. Opened in 2004 and widely known as The Kennel, it is home to the men’s and women’s teams and the Kennel Club student section. The building has an event level and a concourse level, with video boards above the court and concessions around the concourse. Its campus location makes using the arena’s physical address especially helpful on game day.

Plan Your Visit to McCarthey Athletic Center
How do I reach the arena?
Navigate to 801 N. Cincinnati Street rather than the university’s general mailing address. Gonzaga’s directions describe approaches from I-90 using either the Division Street exit or the Hamilton Street exit, then campus streets around Boone and Cincinnati.
The Boone Avenue Retail Center garage, usually called BARC, can be entered from East Boone Avenue or East Desmet Avenue. The university’s general visitor directions identify garage levels two through four; event-day restrictions and signs take priority over ordinary campus parking arrangements.
Where can basketball spectators park?
Game-day options include the south parking lot and BARC north of the arena. Reserved and accessible areas have specific conditions. Read the signs for the game you are attending rather than assuming an empty campus space is public event parking.
Identify both your parking location and your entrance before leaving the car. Campus streets, garage access and ticket gates are separate parts of the arrival plan, especially when your group is approaching from different directions.
What is the arena layout like?
The court and event-level spaces sit below the concourse. Public seating surrounds the playing area, and the concourse provides access to concessions. The facility also includes six suites and event rooms, which are separate from ordinary game admission.
The 6,000-seat figure describes the basketball arena. Gonzaga notes that the building can also host concerts, graduations and other gatherings, for which the setup may differ. Check the chart for your ticketed event rather than borrowing a basketball arrangement for another production.
What should I arrange for an accessible visit?
Accessible and companion seating is available on the concourse. Elevators are in the southeast and northwest corners, and hearing-assistance devices are available through guest services in the southeast lobby. Request the seating and entry arrangements you need before game day.
Medical/family screening lanes provide an alternative route for guests using wheelchairs or other assistive devices. Allow time for the screening staff to inspect equipment and help your party enter together.
When do doors open, and what can I bring?
Basketball doors normally open 90 minutes before tipoff. Re-entry is prohibited, and guests are screened. The published clear-bag limit is 12 by 6 by 12 inches; small clutches up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches are also allowed. Outside food and beverages are prohibited.
Concessions accept credit cards. Follow the game’s latest instructions for any policy changes, and have the scannable ticket ready before joining the entrance line.
What helps on a first visit?
Use the official seating map to identify your section, then plan a campus route that suits your group’s walking distance and mobility. A garage name is more useful than a university-wide address when arranging a meeting point.
For a non-basketball event, confirm doors and admission arrangements with the organizer. The athletic center’s ability to host different programs does not mean every event uses the same public gates or guest areas.
