Spokane Symphony & Chorale: James Lowe - Handel's Messiah

Spokane Symphony & Chorale: James Lowe - Handel's Messiah at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist

Handel's Messiah wasn't composed for a concert hall. It was written to fill sacred space, to let voices rise and meet stone. On Saturday, November 21, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the Spokane Symphony and Chorale perform it inside The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, where the architecture answers the music. Conductor James Lowe leads the evening, with Dr. Meg Stohlmann directing the chorale. If you've only heard this work on a recording, you've missed the way a cathedral makes every voice feel monumental.

The program pairs expressive arias with powerful choral writing, giving soloists and the full ensemble room to explore Handel's range. Soprano Chloe Sundet, alto Nicole Sonbert, tenor Namarea Randolph-Yosea and bass Andrew Krikawa deliver the solo parts. This isn't background music. It's a work that demands your attention and rewards it with moments that stay with you long after the final note fades.

Spokane returns to this performance year after year because some traditions earn their place. Attending with a partner, a parent or a friend who values live music turns the evening into something you share, not just something you attend. A cherished holiday tradition offers more than entertainment; it gives you a reason to pause and experience something beautiful together.
