Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Celebrating Sibelius

Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Celebrating Sibelius at Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox

An afternoon of Nordic symphonic music offers something you can't replicate at home: the power of live brass, the sweep of a full orchestra and the sense of being inside the music rather than listening from a distance. Celebrating Sibelius gives you that experience on Sunday, February 28, 2027, at 3:00 PM, when the Spokane Symphony performs at Martin Woldson Theatre at The Fox. Conductor James Lowe leads a program built around Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, with Richard Strauss's Second Horn Concerto adding warmth and glow to the afternoon.

Principal Horn Clinton Webb takes the solo spotlight in the Strauss concerto. Hearing a member of your own orchestra step forward transforms the concert into something beyond a standard symphonic program. You know the musician. Now you hear what they bring to a piece written to showcase their instrument.

Sibelius's Seventh Symphony rises in one continuous arc, building toward a Nordic climax that rewards patient listening. The program also includes Lemminkäinen's Return and Finlandia, giving you a full afternoon of music rooted in Finnish tradition. If you respond to symphonic storytelling, this repertoire delivers it.

Bring the friend who enjoys classical music on Sunday afternoons. A 3:00 PM start gives you time to plan your day around the concert without rushing. Check ticket options for Celebrating Sibelius and make space for an afternoon of live orchestral music in Spokane.
