About Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox
Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox is an Art Deco performance venue at 1001 W. Sprague Avenue in downtown Spokane. It opened in 1931 as a movie palace designed by Robert Reamer, with interior murals by Anthony Heinsbergen. Today it is the home of the Spokane Symphony and also presents other concerts and stage programs. Its restored historic auditorium, rather than a modern arena floor, shapes the seating and visitor experience.

Plan Your Visit to Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox
What makes the building distinctive?
The Fox was built during the transition from silent film and vaudeville to talking pictures. Its original design included a stage house, orchestra pit and dressing rooms as well as film equipment. The interior decoration moves from aquatic imagery in the lobby toward landscapes and a sunburst above the auditorium.
These features are part of the reason to allow time to look around before a performance. If you want a more detailed visit, the theater offers docent-arranged personal tours and an online virtual tour; a tour is separate from admission to a concert.
How do the seating sections and programs differ?
The seating chart distinguishes floor, loge and balcony areas. Match the section, row and seat on your ticket to the chart, and ask the box office about stairs or mobility needs before selecting a position.
Spokane Symphony Masterworks and Pops programs differ from independently presented Fox concerts. A program’s family guidance, ticket delivery and performance practices can vary, so read the information attached to that specific concert.
How do I get there and park?
Use the West Sprague Avenue address. The theater identifies independent downtown parking, including the Davenport garage at First and Post. Prices and operating conditions are set by the parking operators.
STA Plaza is nearby, and the venue identifies stops along Sprague and First Avenue. Check the current transit trip planner for the route and last departure that fit your performance.
When should I arrive, and what can I bring?
The Fox recommends allowing 45–60 minutes before the performance to park and settle in. Door times vary. Late seating is at house management’s discretion and may require waiting between pieces.
Bags larger than 6.5 by 4.5 inches are subject to inspection, and large bags must be checked. Outside food, drinks, weapons and professional camera equipment are prohibited. Check the event’s specific recording restrictions.
How do I prepare tickets and arrange accommodations?
For Symphony mobile tickets, rotating QR codes activate on the event day. Follow the delivery instructions for the method you selected rather than relying on a purchase receipt alone. The Symphony identifies its own website and box office as the authorized sellers for its performances.
Call 509-624-1200 about accessible seating, companions and the route to your section. Discuss your needs before purchasing, especially when a balcony or loge location is involved.
What should families and first-time visitors know?
All children attending Symphony performances need a ticketed seat. For longer classical programs, consider whether a child can sit through the performance. The Founders Gallery offers a place to continue hearing and seeing the concert if a child becomes restless.
You do not need to dress formally for every concert. Choose comfortable clothing, review the program’s length and arrive with enough time to find your seat. For an architectural visit outside a show, arrange a docent tour through the theater in advance.
