Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Mahler's Fifth

Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Mahler's Fifth at Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox

A solitary trumpet call opens the door. What follows is Mahler's journey from darkness into blazing light, built across five movements that refuse to take the easy path. The Fifth Symphony doesn't offer comfort early. It earns its triumph, and by the time the finale arrives, you've traveled somewhere worth reaching. On Sunday, May 9, 2027, at 3:00 PM, the Spokane Symphony performs Mahler's Fifth at the Martin Woldson Theatre at The Fox, bringing the season to a close on the grandest possible scale.

Before the music begins, Music Director James Lowe offers a live LoweDown guide to the symphony. His introduction connects the work's structure with its shifting emotional moods. If you've ever wanted to understand what makes a symphony more than background, this is your chance to hear someone who knows the piece from the inside explain what you're about to experience.

Bring someone who believes music should take you somewhere. Mahler doesn't write small. His Fifth Symphony builds to one of the most exhilarating finales in the symphonic repertoire, raw and visionary in equal measure. A shared Sunday afternoon at The Fox gives you both a reason to dress up, sit still, and let something larger than daily life fill the room.
