Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto

Spokane Symphony: James Lowe - Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto at Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox

How does a piano hold its own against a full orchestra? Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto answers that question with thunderous chords and sweeping melodies that refuse to stay quiet. On Saturday, January 16, 2027, at 7:30 PM, Spokane Symphony performs this famous concerto at Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox, with pianist Philip Edward Fisher and conductor James Lowe. If you've been waiting for a reason to hear a live orchestra, this is the night.

The concerto's opening alone is unforgettable: bold, dramatic and impossible to ignore. From there, the piece shifts between intimate piano passages and full orchestral force, keeping you engaged through every movement. Hearing it live adds weight and presence that no recording quite captures. You feel the power in the room.

After intermission, Elgar's First Symphony moves from shadowed introspection toward radiant triumph, offering a second emotional arc in one evening. Two major works, one program. That variety gives you more to listen for and more to talk about afterward.

Invite someone who appreciates live music's ability to shift the mood of an entire room. A Saturday evening with a full orchestra offers a different rhythm than your usual weekend plans.
