Spokane Symphony: Ted Sperling - Clouds In My Coffee - The Music of Joni Mitchell Carole King and Carly Simon at Martin Woldson Theatre At The Fox

Love, independence, self-discovery—Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon turned those subjects into songs that defined the singer-songwriter era. On Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 7:30 PM, the Spokane Symphony brings that music to Martin Woldson Theatre at the Fox. Three vocalists—Morgan James, Bryonha Marie and Alysha Umphress—join conductor Ted Sperling to perform hits like "Both Sides Now," "You've Got a Friend" and "You're So Vain," backed by a full orchestra.

These are the songs you already know, now arranged for symphony. The evening offers a different way to hear familiar material: orchestral arrangements that open up recordings you've lived with for years. If you grew up with this music, hearing it performed live adds weight and dimension that a recording can't quite deliver.

Bring someone who still owns the vinyl or remembers where they first heard "Both Sides Now." A Saturday night built around music you both care about gives you a shared reason to leave the house. The evening doesn't require elaborate plans—just two people willing to revisit songs that still hold up.
