The Music Man

The Music Man at First Interstate Center for the Arts

A traveling salesman arrives in town with big promises and zero credentials. The local librarian sees right through him. What follows is Meredith Willson's six-time Tony Award-winning The Music Man, a story that pairs sharp comedy with an unlikely romance worth rooting for. On Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM, the touring production arrives at First Interstate Center for the Arts in Spokane. If you enjoy musicals that move quickly and earn their emotional moments, this one delivers both.

Harold Hill talks fast, sells band instruments to a town that has no band, and plans to disappear before anyone notices he can't tell a trombone from a treble clef. Marian, the librarian of River City, Iowa, becomes the obstacle he didn't account for. The pleasure is watching a slick hustler slowly become someone worth knowing, all set to songs like "Seventy-Six Trombones," "Trouble" and "'Til There Was You." The music gives the story its momentum and its heart.

Bring the family. This is a Saturday matinee built for multiple generations, recommended for ages six and up. A parent and child might laugh at different jokes. A grandparent might remember the 1962 film. Everyone gets something familiar to hold onto, plus the surprise of watching it unfold live. The performance runs two hours and forty-five minutes, giving you a full afternoon in the world Willson created.

Hill's confidence meets its match in Marian's skepticism, giving the romance a lively streak of mischief. Check ticket options for The Music Man at First Interstate Center for the Arts and make a Saturday afternoon plan in Spokane.
