The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at First Interstate Center for the Arts

A novice who chooses love over walls. A family that finds its voice through music. The Sound of Music tells a story about choosing connection when the safer path is staying closed off. If that emotional journey resonates with you—the courage it takes to follow your heart when everything tells you to play it safe—this touring production arrives at First Interstate Center for the Arts on Wednesday, May 26, 2027, at 7:00 PM.

The songs are the reason three generations still know this musical. "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "Edelweiss"—these are melodies you've carried since childhood. Hearing them performed live by a North American touring cast directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien gives those familiar songs fresh weight. This production has earned critical acclaim for honoring the Rodgers & Hammerstein score while bringing Maria and the von Trapp family to life for a new audience.

Bring the person who taught you to sing along to the 1965 film. A parent, a grandparent, the friend who knows every word—this is a night built for sharing. The touring production runs 2 hours and 45 minutes with one intermission, giving you time to enjoy the full emotional arc without feeling rushed. For families, the production recommends ages 8 and up, making it a welcoming introduction to live theater.

This Wednesday performance gives you a midweek occasion worth planning around. Check ticket options for The Sound of Music and choose a seat where you can watch a story about love, resilience and the courage to climb every mountain.
