The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at First Interstate Center for the Arts

Decades after its Broadway debut, The Sound of Music still knows how to fill a theater. The story gives you romance, a spirited heroine who follows her heart, and a family caught between love and survival. On Sunday, May 30, 2027, at 1:00 PM, this Tony-winning production arrives at First Interstate Center for the Arts in Spokane. If you've been waiting for the right reason to introduce someone to live musical theater, or to revisit a classic you remember, this North American tour offers both.

Three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien directs this production. The staging brings Rodgers & Hammerstein's score to life with songs like "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," and "Edelweiss." Hearing those melodies performed live, with a full company on stage, creates a different experience than watching the 1965 film at home. The live voices, the orchestra, the immediacy of theatrical storytelling: these elements remind you why people keep coming back to this show.

A Sunday matinee leaves your evening free. Bring your parent, your theater-loving friend, or a young person old enough to appreciate the story. The production recommends ages eight and up, and runs two hours and forty-five minutes with one intermission. That's enough time to settle into the narrative without losing younger audience members.
