The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at First Interstate Center for the Arts

Some stories stick around because they speak to something larger than their setting. The Sound of Music centers on love, courage and finding your place when the world demands you choose sides. Rodgers & Hammerstein built a musical that feels timeless without relying on spectacle alone. Saturday, May 29, 2027, at 2:00 PM, a North American tour brings this production to First Interstate Center for the Arts in Spokane, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien.

The score gives you songs you already know, even if you've never seen the show live. "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "Edelweiss": each one carries a melody that invites you to sing along in your head, if not out loud. Theater works best when the audience feels connected to what's happening onstage, and these songs create that connection before the curtain rises.

Bring someone who remembers the film or introduce a younger family member to the story for the first time. A Saturday matinee offers a shared outing that doesn't require late evening plans. The production runs two hours and forty-five minutes with one intermission, giving you time to settle in and let the performance unfold. Theater built on resilience and music feels especially worth experiencing together.

Make it a plan with the people who matter to you. Let Rodgers & Hammerstein's melodies give the afternoon its lift, with the live cast adding expression to songs you may have known for years. Check ticket options for this touring production and reserve your seats for a Saturday afternoon in Spokane.
