The Wiz

The Wiz at First Interstate Center for the Arts

Dorothy's journey down a yellow brick road gets an electric overhaul in The Wiz, the Tony Award-winning musical that turned a familiar tale into a soul-driven celebration. The story you thought you knew—courage, heart, home—comes back with gospel harmonies, funk rhythms and choreography that fuses ballet, jazz and modern pop. On Sunday, December 20, 2026, at 6:30 PM, the all-new Broadway tour stops at First Interstate Center for the Arts in Spokane. If you've been looking for a reason to dress up and leave the house, this production gives you one.

The Chicago Sun-Times called this revival "eye-popping and high-intensity," and The Baltimore Sun praised its powerhouse performances and visionary sets. Director Schele Williams and choreographer JaQuel Knight bring fresh energy to a show that changed Broadway when it first arrived. The choreography, shaped by Knight's work on Beyoncé's "Single Ladies," adds a modern groove to every scene. This is theater built to move you, literally and emotionally.

Bring someone who appreciates musicals that take risks. The Wiz appeals to theater fans who want more than a retelling—they want reinvention. Or make it a family outing: the show is recommended for ages 8 and up, and runs approximately two hours and twenty minutes, including intermission. A Sunday evening performance gives you time to gather people and make it an occasion.
