The Wiz

The Wiz at First Interstate Center for the Arts

Dorothy's journey down the yellow brick road takes a different turn when soul, gospel, rock and 70s funk replace the familiar score. The Wiz reimagines The Wizard of Oz with a groove that changed Broadway when it first arrived, and this all-new touring production brings that energy to First Interstate Center for the Arts in Spokane on Sunday, December 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM. If you know someone who thinks Broadway means old-fashioned ballads, this revival might shift that assumption.

The staging pairs ballet, jazz and modern pop choreography with visionary sets and powerhouse performances. Theater works differently when you watch it unfold in real time, with dancers moving across the stage and voices filling the room. A matinee gives you the full scale of a Broadway production without requiring an evening commitment, making it easier to bring younger theatergoers along for their first big show.

This production is recommended for ages eight and up, with a runtime of approximately two hours and twenty minutes including intermission. That makes it accessible for families looking to introduce kids to live theater without stretching their attention too far. A Sunday afternoon performance leaves the rest of your weekend intact while giving everyone something memorable to talk about afterward.

Take the young person in your life who's ready to see what a Broadway stage can do. Check ticket options for The Wiz and plan a Sunday matinee that expands what theater can sound like.
